Keep It Live spawned the smash hit single, “Let It Whip,” which is the song most associated with the Dazz Band still today. The album rose to the top of the R&B charts, going all the way to number one, and also charted on the US mainstream charts in the top twenty. The album spawned the singles “Shake It Up” and “Invitation to Love,” and paved the way for the group’s big breakthrough with the album Keep It Live in 1982. After switching labels, the group released the debut, Invitation to Love, in 1980. The Dazz Band’s debut, the single “I Might as Well Forget About Loving You,” arrived in 1978, and ultimately caught the attention of Motown Records.

The Dazz Band signed with 20th Century Records and after expanding its lineup moved to Los Angeles to prepare for a debut album. The American funk band known as Dazz Band, best known for the song, “Let It Whip,” was established in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1976 by founding member Bobby Harris.
